Designed for both the novice and experienced young performer, campers will work on vocal technique, improvisation, blocking, as well as character development. The camp will culminate in a cabaret style performance which parents and families are invited to attend. This camp is let by Unami Theatre Director, Katie Gornick, and an excellent precursor for students aged 7 to 11, who wish to participate in school productions.
A man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.
It’s 1955, and into a square little town rides a guitar-playing young man who changes everything and everyone he meets. Loosely based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, this hip-swiveling, lip-curling musical fantasy will have you jumpin’ out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as “Teddy Bear,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Hound Dog,” and “Jailhouse Rock.”
Tickets for our summer performances are now on sale.
